Manali to Solang Valley

Begin your Shinku La expedition early in the morning from Manali and drive towards Solang Valley.

Located approximately 14 km from Manali, Solang Valley is surrounded by magnificent mountains and lush alpine scenery. The valley is famous for adventure activities and offers a completely different experience depending on the season.

Visitors can enjoy activities such as paragliding, ropeway rides, zorbing and other adventure activities, subject to availability and weather conditions.

During the journey, enjoy the changing mountain scenery as you gradually leave the busy surroundings of Manali behind.

Solang Valley to Atal Tunnel

Continue towards the spectacular Atal Tunnel, driving through the beautiful alpine landscape of the upper Kullu Valley.

The approximately 9.02-km-long Atal Tunnel passes through the Pir Panjal Range and provides an important all-weather connection between Manali and the Lahaul Valley.

As you emerge from the North Portal, the landscape changes dramatically from the green Kullu Valley to the rugged terrain of Lahaul.

Atal Tunnel to Sissu

Continue towards Sissu, one of the most beautiful destinations in the Lahaul Valley.

Also known as Khwaling, Sissu is surrounded by towering mountains and is situated along the Chandra River.

Take a short break to enjoy the spectacular scenery and capture photographs of the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

Sissu to Keylong

Continue your journey deeper into the Lahaul Valley towards Keylong, the administrative headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti district.

The route offers magnificent views of rugged mountains, river valleys and traditional Himalayan settlements.

Keylong is also known for its Buddhist cultural heritage and beautiful mountain surroundings.

Take a short refreshment break here before continuing towards Jispa.

Keylong to Jispa

The road from Keylong to Jispa is one of the most scenic stretches of the journey.

Located along the Bhaga River, Jispa is a peaceful Himalayan settlement surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes.

Enjoy the calm riverside scenery and take photographs before continuing towards Darcha.

Jispa to Darcha

Continue towards Darcha, a strategically important settlement on the Manali–Leh route.

Located at a high altitude along the Bhaga River, Darcha marks an important point on the journey towards the high mountain passes.

The landscape becomes increasingly rugged as you move deeper into the high-altitude region.

Darcha to Shinku La Pass

The most adventurous part of the journey begins from Darcha as you head towards Shinku La Pass.

Shinku La, also known as Shingo La, is a spectacular high-altitude mountain pass located at approximately 5,091 metres (16,703 feet).

The route features dramatic mountain landscapes, rocky terrain and breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges.

As you approach the pass, the landscape becomes increasingly barren and rugged, creating a truly extraordinary high-altitude experience.

Spend some time at the pass, subject to weather and road conditions and enjoy the magnificent views before beginning the return journey.

Shinku La Pass to Manali

After experiencing the spectacular Shinku La Pass, begin the return journey towards Manali.

Retrace the route through Darcha, Jispa, Keylong, Sissu and Atal Tunnel before continuing towards Manali.

Due to the long distance and high-altitude terrain, the return journey may extend into the evening.
