The approximately 9.02-km-long tunnel passes through the Pir Panjal Range and provides an important connection between Manali and the Lahaul Valley.

After exiting the North Portal, the landscape changes dramatically from the lush green Kullu Valley to the rugged high-altitude terrain of Lahaul.

Atal Tunnel to Kokksar

Drive towards Kokksar, one of the first settlements in the Lahaul Valley after crossing the Atal Tunnel.

Situated at approximately 3,140 metres, Kokksar is surrounded by dramatic mountains and is known for its cold climate.

Take a short break if required before continuing along the Chandra River.

Kokksar to Gramphu

Continue your journey along the Chandra River towards Gramphu.

Gramphu is an important junction in the Lahaul and Spiti region, connecting routes towards several high-altitude destinations.

The landscape becomes increasingly rugged and remote as you continue deeper into the Chandra Valley.

Gramphu to Chhatru

From Gramphu, continue towards Chhatru, a remote and scenic stop on the route to Chandratal Lake.

Located at a high altitude, Chhatru is surrounded by barren mountains, rocky terrain and the flowing Chandra River.

It is a popular stop for travelers heading towards Chandratal and Spiti Valley.

Take a short break here before continuing towards Batal.

Chhatru to Batal

Continue your journey towards Batal, one of the most remote and fascinating stops on the Chandratal route.

Located at approximately 4,000 metres, Batal is surrounded by rugged mountains and the Chandra River.

Batal is particularly famous for its legendary roadside eatery, Chacha-Chachi Dhaba, which has become a well-known stopping point for travelers exploring this remote Himalayan region.

Enjoy a short break and refreshments before continuing towards Chandratal Lake.

Batal to Chandratal Lake

The final stretch towards Chandratal Lake is the highlight of the entire journey.

Situated at approximately 4,300 metres, Chandratal is a spectacular high-altitude glacial lake famous for its crescent shape and crystal-clear waters.

The lake is surrounded by magnificent snow-covered Himalayan peaks, creating an extraordinary landscape that changes dramatically with the light and weather.
